Every morning when I come to the Dancing Goat Farm I am greeted by about five or six free roaming chickens that run over to my car when I arrive looking for their morning snack. There are free roaming chickens on the farm because some of them do not do well in an enclosure with other chickens so they are allowed to roam free. There are several hens and two roosters in this flock with the Head Rooster being Tex. Tex is a Barred Rock rooster that was a gift from a friend of Pam's in Tallahassee and he has been a part of the farm now for about three years. When I started volunteering on the farm Tex was living in a large enclosure with just one hen. One morning about a month ago the enclosures door was left open and Tex got out and he started to explore the farm and since then he has not been interested in going back. Over the next few weeks Tex took over as the leader of the free roaming flock becoming their Head Rooster. The chickens that roam free on the farm like to follow Tex around during the day eating and resting I always enjoy watching them together having a great time. Also Tex and the free roaming chickens are very well behaved they never bother the volunteers or visitors they are wonderful ambassadors for the Dancing Goat Farm. Well I will be back at the farm again tomorrow so check back soon with the City Boy on the Farm.
