Sharing my Snacks in the Morning

Everyday when I come to the farm I arrive early so I make sure to bring some food with me for a morning snack. Throughout the morning I eat when I feel hungry and often I am joined by a free roaming chicken or two looking to share with me. There are several chickens that get to roam free on the Dancing Goat Farm and they like to follow me around waiting for me to get something to eat so they can share. I always bring extra snacks so when I share with the chickens as well as the goats there is going to be enough for all of us. I always enjoy sharing my snacks with the goats who are always more than happy to eat whatever I offer them. For instance when I am eating a banana I give little pieces to the chickens and when I am done I let the goats eat the peel which they really enjoy. When the goats get a snack they always make sure to thank me with a gentle head butt or a big kiss. The faces they make in anticipation of getting their snacks is priceless and it is impossible to ignore them and that is the reason why I always make sure to have enough snacks with me when I am at the farm. Chico the Man

It was foggy and overcast this morning at the Dancing Goat Farm. All the chickens, quails and goats seemed happy because it had cooled down a little bit. After I did all of the cleaning, feeding and egg gathering I took time to visit with the rescue cats as well as my special friend Chico the Man. Chico is a two year old Fancy Rooster that Pam held for a year until the day came when he was supposed to go home but his owners told Pam they didn't want Chico anymore and that she could do whatever she wanted with him. Well Pam's heart is so big that once she got the news about Chico she decided to let the farm be his forever home without any hesitation. It is hard not to feel bad for Chico being left behind for a year and then being left behind forever but he is better off here at the farm with his three wives and all his friends. I always make sure I spend time with Chico whenever I am at the farm and I tell him how special he is and let him know he will always have a home. Tex visits with the Goats

This morning I was greeted at my car by Tex and a few of the other free roaming chickens on the Dancing Goat Farm. As soon as I got out of my car I gave out a few snacks and as I was walking up to the farm those chickens followed me hoping on getting something else to eat. The weather was beautiful and there was a nice breeze which all the animals seemed to be enjoying. I was in a hurry today so I got right to work cleaning, feeding and gathering the eggs. When I was done I made sure to take the time to check on all the animals as well as hand out a few more snacks to my special friends. As I was leaving I noticed Tex in one of the outdoor enclosures visiting with the goats he is very social and I guess that's also one of the perks of being a free roaming rooster. Two New Baby Goats

Happy Holidays to everyone I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving. While we were all celebrating the holiday two new beautiful baby goats were born. The first one born is named Alaska and she is very active and healthy she is such a beautiful little girl. The second baby goat that was born is a boy and his name is Expresso Bean he is a little smaller than most baby boys but he is healthy and happy. This is a great time of the year at the farm because we are expecting more baby goats in the next few weeks. Because of the arrival of the new babies we are looking for nannies to help feed and care for them so if you're interested in helping please contact Pam Lunn on Facebook at The Dancing Goat. It is such a pleasure to spend time with the baby goats I could not imagine that anyone would not enjoy also spending time with them. It is obvious that the babies are very cute for example when I got to the farm this morning it was chilly so both of the baby goats were wearing tiny jackets with hoods I couldn't believe how cute they were it made me smile and laugh there is not much that they do that isn't adorable. Watching Over the Eggs

I have been very busy the last week dealing with some personal issues but everything has worked out great. I still have come to the farm as I always do and all the animals are doing great and enjoying the beautiful weather. All the goats have been very active and they are doing their best to make as many babies as possible. We had our first new baby goat of the season on Saturday night her name is Alaska and she is beautiful and healthy and she is doing very well. It is also the time of the year that the chickens start to lay a larger number of eggs. This morning while I was gathering the eggs I was surprised to see how many had been laid. When I got to the final cage I came across a hen who was keeping a watchful eye on her eggs as I was getting ready to gather them. She fluttered around for a little while as well as complained but eventually she let me finish my work. I always make sure to be patient and kind when I remove the eggs and I also always encourage the hens to start the process over again. Spending Time with Missy

Every time I go to the Dancing Goat Farm during and after doing my work I interact with the animals to let them know they are loved and to also check on them to make sure they are doing well. Even though the farm is mostly chickens, quails and goats there are a few other special animals including an eighteen year old horse named Missy. Missy is a quarter horse with a free spirit who has been a part of the farm since 2001. When the weather is nice Missy can be found outside running around in her private enclosure. When I visit with Missy I always make sure to bring her a special snack even though her favorite is peanut butter and jelly she will pretty much eat anything. She also always enjoys it when I stroke her neck as well as rub her ears it always adds to my day when I spend time with her. Goats Morning Snack

When I arrived at the farm this morning I was greeted by Sweetie who is one of the rescued cats that calls the Dancing Goat Farm their home. I then feed and cleaned the chickens and quails and gathered all the eggs as I do every morning. This morning there were some bananas to use for a snack and as soon as the chickens saw me preparing their snack they all begin chattering very loudly. When the snacks were all passed out I went into the barn to visit with the horses and cats. While I was inside the barn I noticed the goats were also having a morning snack they were all enjoying some alfalfa. Everyday the goats get regular goat food in a pellet form as well as hay but when they are given some alfalfa they act like it is a special treat. I stayed in the barn for awhile watching the goats enjoying their alfalfa and playing with the cats and when I was done I went and finished my work for the day. Muffa the Farm Foreman

Most mornings when I come to the farm within a few minutes I am greeted by Muffa who is a domestic short hair cat that Pam rescued about two years ago. His life started with a family that did not care for him and he was left to roam the streets in the neighborhood of one of Pam's friends. Muffa was terrorizing Pam's friends cats and made her life quite miserable but Muffa's owners did not care. So a plan was put together for Muffa to be saved from his neglectful family and brought to live on the Dancing Goat Farm. After a few weeks Muffa started to become more comfortable with his new surroundings and turned quickly into the Farm Foreman. Muffa likes to join me while I am cleaning and feeding the animals. When the cleaning and feeding is done I get a wheel barrel to put the fresh hay in so I can clean the egg boxes. As soon as I have the wheel barrel full of the hay in jumps Muffa wanting to tag along for a ride. Muffa's is short for Mustafa which means "the chosen one" and Muffa was surely meant to be the Farm Foreman at the Dancing Goat Farm. Mornings on the Farm

Everyday when I come to work at the Dancing Goat Farm I always start my morning by checking in on the two horses Missy and Cisco. I like to start their day with some attention and fresh hay which I can tell they appreciate. I then go and check on the rescue kittens and cats that we have in the barn and give them a lot of love and reassurance and a few cans of cat food. From there I take a walk around the farm to make sure there are no immediate concerns that we would need to address. Once I am satisfied with everything I start the feeding, cleaning and gathering of the eggs which takes me inside of the cages where I interact directly with the chickens. I take this time to also check on the chickens to make sure there are no problems or health concerns. After that work is finished I do some general maintenance work as well as any projects that need to be done. Even though there is a lot of hard work to do when I am at the farm I still always find the time to visit with the animals on a personal level that along with seeing them all so happy and healthy is the greatest reward of all. Happy to be on the Farm

The weather has been beautiful the last few days and it has been fun to work on the farm because all the animals are happy and active. Here at the Dancing Goat Farm we have all types of animals. The farm does not only have animals to produce milk and eggs but we also have many animals that are rescues and call the farm home. At the farm we have rescued roosters and hens as well as cats, dogs, ducks, rabbits and even a few older retired goats. Pam believes that every animal should be given a chance to live a good life. We have helped rescue and save many injured or sick animals. We all work with these animals until they are rehabilitated or adopted and sometimes they are very lucky and become part of the farm forever. The compassion that Pam has for the animals and her willingness to fight for their survival is what most draws me to work here at the farm. Pam and all the animals truly have been a godsend for me and have changed my life forever I am so HAPPY to be on the FARM. Four New Baby Chicks

Well it was another great weekend at the farm and even though the weather was a little cool the animals were very happy and I was able to get a lot of work done. Sunday morning was the coldest morning of the weekend and I was all bundled up with my wool hat and jacket. I did all my usual work which is cleaning all the chicken and quail cages as well as gathering all of their eggs. After I am done with that work I start on any projects that need to be done around the farm or things that Pam has asked me to do. As I was finishing up for the day on Sunday I started to hear high pitch tweets coming from one of the smaller chicken cages located right near the barn. I decided to go and investigate and to my surprise there were three new chicks hopping around as well as one that was just starting to hatch. After being on the farm for a year now this was the first time I witnessed a baby chick being born it was amazing to watch it pushing itself out of its shell. I watched for about ten minutes until the new baby chick was completly out of its shell. It was so exciting they are such little chicks but still being just minutes old the first thing that all four of them did was seek out food and their mothers warmth. Huddling Together to stay Warm

When I got to the farm this morning it was cooler than it has been in a while. The cooler weather does not affect the animals but I think it does make them feel more comfortable. I noticed while I was cleaning and feeding that because it was so windy today the chickens and quails were huddling together to stay warm. Also there are a few new baby chicks whose moms were making sure that they stayed underneath them so they could get the warmth from their bodies. After I did my work for the day I walked around the farm to make sure all the animals would be ready for the cooler evening. I had to cover a few of the chickens to make sure that they would be safe from the high winds. As I was getting ready to leave I noticed that the quails in the large cage had all gotten together in one large basket to use one another for their body heat there must have been at least fifteen quails in one basket it was quite a sight. Welcoming the Peking Ducks

I has been a beautiful start to the week with the weather being so beautiful all the animals have been very happy. This morning I got to the farm before the sun came up and it was still dark so I decided to go into the barn to feed the cats and the horses. When I was done with my work in the barn the sun had already come up so I went to start taking care of the chickens. As I left the barn I noticed out of the corner of my eye a new enclosure that had been built right behind the large main chicken enclosure. I went to investigate and to my surprise I found a pair of Peking ducks. The two new ducks looked very happy walking around quacking you could tell they were enjoying their new home. At the farm we have chickens, quails, rabbits, goats, horses, dogs, cats and now ducks. Well like Pam always tells me there's always room for more. Noises from the Barn

This morning it was cooler on the farm than it has been for a while and all the animals were alert and active when I arrived. As usual I cleaned, feed and gathered the eggs from the chickens and quails and then changed their hay where necessary. As I was working I heard chickens chattering loudly somewhere in the barn so I decided to go investigate. I went from stall to stall and finally came upon the source of the disturbance, it was Tex and a few of the other free roaming chickens interacting with the goats in their stall and scratching through the hay looking for a snack. I always enjoy seeing the different animals on the Dancing Goat Farm interacting with one another so I took a few minutes and watched them all enjoying themselves together. This kind of behavior reassures me that all the animals are very happy on the farm. Naked Neck on the Loose

The weather has been so beautiful the last few mornings that all the animals on the farm have been very active and happy. At the farm we have chickens, quails, goats, cats, dogs and two horses and almost all the animals live in stalls, enclosures or cages except for the cats. There are also three chickens that get to roam the farm freely because they did not do well being with the other chickens. The chickens that roam free on the farm always stay on the property and are very well behaved never bothering any workers, volunteers or visitors. Recently I noticed that a Naked Neck Turken was being picked on by the other Naked Necks in his enclosure and I knew I would have to move him somewhere else but that would not easy because he is a rooster. After trying for over thirty minutes I could not find any place he would be accepted so I put him in the quail area which is enclosed and has a gate for the day. The next morning when I arrived at the farm the Naked Neck Turken was no longer in the quail area and was no where to be found. I went ahead and started my work for the day and as soon as the sun started to come up I saw the Naked Neck Turken come from around the back of the main chicken enclosures he had made it through his first night. It has been a few days now and Homer has been roaming freely on the farm and I am happy to say he is fitting in well with the three other free roaming chickens and is also very well behaved. Preparing the Snacks

Ever time I come to the Dancing Goat Farm I clean and feed the chickens and quails as well as gather all their eggs. Some days there are vegetables, fruit and bread that have been donated to the farm as snacks for the chickens. After I have finished my work I start to prepare the donated snacks and as soon as I begin all the chickens on the farm start to chatter loudly in anticipation. While I prepare the vegetables, fruit and bread the chickens watch my every move as they patiently wait for their turn at being served their special treats. As I go from cage to cage to serve up the snacks I am greeted with loud crows, fancy dances and flapping wings the whole farm comes alive with excitement it is quite a unique experience the donated snacks really do make it a special morning. Missy makes a Pit Stop

It has been another wonderful and productive week at the Dancing Goat Farm. As always I feed and cleaned all the chickens and quails as well as gathered all their eggs. I also had some extra time to finish a few projects that we had started earlier in the week. This morning while Pam was going to the opening of the brand new Aldi's she asked if I could put Missy the farms eighteen year old quarter horse outside in her enclosure. Of course I was more than happy to help so I went into the barn to get Missy and as soon as she saw me she came right over to the door of her stall as if she knew it was time to go outside. I put on her lead and then opened the stall door and started to take her around the back of the barn but halfway to her enclosure she decided it was time for a pit stop. Missy stopped right in her tracks and started to snack on a patch of fresh grass she had discovered. I was patient and after a few minutes I was able to get her moving again and we continued to her enclosure where she enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. Another Great Farm Day

Twice a year at the Dancing Goat Farm we have a Farm Day so that Pam's friends, customers, and people she knows have a opportunity to see the farm first hand. The Dancing Goat Farm is a working farm and there is always a lot of activity going on which makes it hard to allow general visitors so Farm Day gives Pam the chance to share her farm with everyone. When we have a Farm Day all the farm workers and volunteers have to pull together to make sure the farm is safe and ready for a large group of quests. By Saturday afternoon the farm was prepared for the arrival of the quests the next morning at 10am. On Sunday morning everyone that has helping with Farm Day was there by 9am and all the animals were excited by all the people and activity. As the quests started arriving I greeted them at the front gate with Zumba who is one of the younger female goats. Zumba loves attention and was more than happy to pose for a picture with anyone who was interested. When all the quests had arrived they all gathered at the entrance to the farm were Pam met them and took them on a personal tour of the farm. When the tour was over everyone got the chance to meet some of the farm animals first hand as well as the people who work on the farm. When the day was done I could tell that everyone had a good time from the kids to the grown ups. We had all worked extra hard at the farm but it was worth it because we had another successful Farm Day.
